Hop Against Homophobia Contest Winner

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who commented on my blog post for the hop against homophobia and all those who entered the draw for a copy of one of my books.

Please forgive my delay in posting the winner I have been quite busy with a poultry show and had to wait until that was over before I could draw the winner.

The answer to the contest question is “Chop Chop” which is the name of my beautiful Australorp Rooster. It has nothing to do with what will happen to my lovely boy, but is a nickname he was given as a chick because instead of saying “cheep cheep!” like his brother and sister, he used to say “chop chop!”

I love him dearly and find him to be one of the best pets I have ever owned.

The winner of the competition is: Ashley E.

I will email you your prize Ashley and thanks so much for entering!

Kal

Hop Against Homophobia

It really puzzles me that whilst we live in one of the most educated and enlightened ages that mankind has known, we still have to hold events such as this. Think about it. We now know enough about the universe to accept the probability that a god does not exist, or if it does, that it is not that interested in the day to day happenings on the Earth. We know enough to understand that homosexuality is not exclusive to humanity, and yet, we have to spend time trying to stamp out the fear of what is essentially a normal human diversity, much like skin or eye colour or right or left handedness. I am puzzled. That’s all I can say. It’s time we grew up and accepted that love is love.

“There are four questions of value in life… What is sacred? Of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for, and what is worth dying for? The answer to each is the same. Only love.”
Johnny Depp.

If you’d like a chance to win copy of your choice of either The Keeper or Queen of Pentacles, here’s what to do.

Unscramble the letters below to discover the name of my pet Rooster (pictured below) and email your answer to me at kalkasar@gmail.com. All correct entries will go into the draw.

My rooster’s name is?: phco poch (unscramble the words)

The Colt

Well, finally I have finished, edited and subbed The Colt! It feels like I’ve been working on that book forever. I haven’t, really though. In fact, there was a period of about 12 months where it just sat idle and unfinished in my WIP folder and I didn’t do a thing with it. It was stuck with just a chapter or two left to complete it and I had no clue how I should write those chapters. Eventually, the muse came through though and I got to the finish line.

With a total wordcount of 73,642 words, it is the longest work I have completed to date. I am proud of the characters who both grew and changed so much throughout this story, and I can’t wait to see them out there for my readers to enjoy.

It has been a looong drought, but hopefully, the wait will have been worth it!

Revamping

Image courtesy of stock.xchngI’ve done a little bit of revamping on the site today and also changed where my website is hosted as I found that people were having trouble getting the old location to load.

You can get here via http://kalitakasar.com or http://kalkasar.wordpress.com either address will work.

I’d been thinking of moving to WordPress anyway so here I am. I’ll do my best to keep this blog updated on a semi-regular basis, but if you get bored with this one, you can always catch up with my life on my alter-ego’s blog at http://megleigh.net

In other news, I have just agreed to re-sign The Keeper with Torquere Press for another two years.

Not much else to tell you here, so I will quit rambling and go find some wholesome pursuit to occupy myself with.

Lesbian YA Books

I’ve been following a link trail all across the interenet today, looking at blurbs for Lesbian Young Adult books and found a couple that even have me interested in reading them.

The first is: Annie on my Mind

This is the story of two young girls, each an outcast in her own school circles who meet each other at a museum and become first, friends, and later lovers.

While they have different histories and goals in life, the two girls do share a close friendship that quickly grows into love. Liza’s school is struggling to remain open and she finds herself having to defend a student who planned a poorly conceived program: ear piercing in the school basement. This results in a three-day school suspension for Liza and helps to bring Liza and Annie closer together as they both deal with the struggles encountered by many high school students.

The second book that caught my interest is: Kissing Kate

Kate was Lissa’s best friend. they’ve shared everything for four years. Then one night at a drunken party, Kate leaned in to kiss Lissa, and Lissa kissed her back. And now Kate is pretending Lissa doesn’t exist. Confused and alone, Lissa’s left questioning everything she thought she knew about herself, and about life. but with the help of a free-spirit new friend, Lissa’s beginning to find the strength to realize that sometimes falling in love with the wrong person is the only way to find your footing.

Both of these stories sound intriguing and have gone onto my TBB list.
